5 things that slow down an apartment move

Most apartment moves run long for the same few reasons, and you can sort out each one before moving day. Here's what our crews see, and what to do about it.

1. The elevator isn't reserved

Many apartment communities ask you to book the elevator or the loading dock. Without a booking, the crew waits for a free elevator between loads. Call the leasing office as soon as you have a date and ask for a time slot.

2. The truck has nowhere to park

A moving truck is too tall for most parking garages. Ask the office where the truck can stand, and send us the answer with your quote request.

3. The move-in hours run out

Some apartment communities allow moves only at set hours, or not on weekends. Check the rules before you pick a date, so the crew isn't stopped halfway.

4. The boxes aren't packed

Packing on moving day adds hours. Have every box packed and closed before the crew arrives, or ask us to pack for you at the same hourly rate.

5. A heavy piece is a surprise

A piano, a gun safe or anything over 300 lb needs at least 3 movers. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote, so the right crew comes the first time.

Want a crew that plans for all five?

Our apartment movers plan the truck, the crew and the parking around your building's rules. 2 movers and the truck are $139 an hour, with no truck fee and no distance charge, and a $25 deposit holds your date. You won't wait days for a price either: an average apartment books online in minutes.

Booking terms: a $25 deposit holds your date and counts toward your total. Need a new date? Reschedule and the deposit moves with you. Cancel 48 hours or more before your move and it's refunded.
